Kelly Kavanagh was Liam’s happily ever after, his loyal princess. A lifeline to something better than any high school dropout could ever hope for…until the day she left to pursue a dream that didn’t include him and slowly his kingdom crumbled to the ground.

Liam O’Connell was the sun to Kelly’s everlasting moon, her painted prince. A strong and devoted soul to fight the war she was slowly losing against herself…until his promises had become lies and her dream was the only way she would ever survive.

They have more than just miles and time between them now. The twin fortresses they’ve built around their hearts are next to impossible to scale. But, when two parallel fates collide in life and in death, will the impact be powerful enough to break down their self-imposed walls?

Every love story starts with Once Upon a Time, but in real life there are no fairytale endings, and the prince who rescues you...will never wear a crown.

"She was east and I would always be her west."

There is always that book that you remember where you were when you started it, how you felt while you were reading it, and where you were when it ended...and this is that book. THIS. BOOK. Ugh, there are really no words to describe how amazing this book is. Kingdom is everything you could ever hope for in a book and more. Though if you ask me you can never go wrong with a Johnson book because her writing literally gives me life.

"Love and hate - you'd never be able to understand what each word meant without the other."

This book takes you on a journey, a journey you never want to end because every word that is poured into this book is word porn. It just gives you all those goosebumps you get when you know it's just right. That is Kingdom. Liam and Kelly aren't perfect...in fact they are far from it. Both of them suffer with their internal war of life and how it is definitely not what they imagined when they were younger.

"It was careless to want her. Her shattered edges matched mine. I'd never be able to give her the freedom she wanted."

They were sweethearts when they were young but now time and life has drifted them apart, and they no longer no each other. It's been years since they've talked or seen each other but the feelings have never left. Liam and Kelly were destined for each other. Their lives deserved so much more meaning than what they had been given. Liam struggles to always be the leader, to always carry the weight of his family, and run his tattoo shop. But he's always been that man and he doesn't ever picture it changing. Though he is an asshole, you know you wouldn't want him any other way.

"You have pieces of me...that will only ever be yours."

Kelly has had anything but an easy go at life. Her beauty has always taken her far but it's also given her multitudes of pain.  She never asked for this life. Though she's tried to make the best of her modeling lifestyle...she seems to never forget the man that's always had her heart. Her prince. Her painted prince.

"He's my dark knight, my painted prince."

These two were meant for each other but they have drifted apart. But it seems now that life has thrown them back into each other's lives. Will they be able to look past the pain of their past to move forward to a brighter future? Or will the past cloud their judgment?

"I always wanted to be rescued. I just got tired of waiting is all."

Johnson has written a profoundly beautiful book that will stick with you for the decades. And you will want it to stay that way. Liam's and Kelly's story is a true story of life, love, and loss.
